Measures for Sustainable Hospitals

The Problem:  Devise a practical set of measures for a national campaign that drives sustainable practices in U.S. hospitals

I led the development of a set of measures for the Healthier Hospitals Initiative and advised on details of data collection.  The campaign uses a proprietary data collection web-interface provided by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and a public application developed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (ENERGY STAR®Portfolio Manager).  I interviewed experts, prepared initial drafts definitions, tested drafts with sustainability leaders in hospital systems, and summarized decisions for approval by the HHI Steering Committee.
